Architecture firm, ZH Architects, initially wanted to fix visual inconsistencies on their website. However, the bigger opportunity wasn’t just how it looked, but how it was structured.
ZH Architects initially worked with a developer using Wordpress, and assumed development and design were the same — but the result didn’t reflect their vision and needs. They were locked into rigid layouts, could not control how photos were displayed, and ended up with a disjointed site, misrepresenting their thoughtful, detail-driven work.
I helped design and build a cohesive website that truly reflected their brand and is easy to manage and update on their own.

Design Strategy
Based on their pain points and poor site usability including sections lacking differentiation, lack of cues and links, and long load time, I approached the site redesign with these key drivers.

Process
Discovery
To gain alignment, we discussed likes/dislikes of other websites, and taxonomies that might makes sense.
Project Management
I created shared documentation to keep track of progress, assigning tasks and due dates.
Content Management
I provided a spreadsheet to be filled in and used to populate the templates. This helped create:
• Organization and insight of their projects
• Consistency
• A way to associate SEO keywords
• A system enabling anyone to maintain the site
Design Exploration
Once a direction was chosen, I implemented custom code to optimize site experience, including tags and filters for better navigability.
Deliverables
I created a guide to Squarespace and best practices like image optimization.
